Women's Soccer Wrap-Ups Spring Season This Weekend vs. Stanford and Fresno State
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Looking to complete its second consecutive undefeated spring season, Santa Clara women's soccer will take on Stanford Fri., April 27 at 7 p.m. and Fresno State on Sun., April 29 at 4 p.m. Both games will take place at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Stanford is coming off of its first women's soccer national championship in 2011 by beating Duke 1-0 in the College Cup final. In 2009 and 2010 the Broncos and Cardinal faced off in the NCAA Tournament and Stanford came out ahead both times. In 2010 the Cardinal took down Santa Clara 2-1 in the second round and in the 2009 third round Stanford won 1-0. Each year the Cardinal would advance to the national title game before falling to North Carolina 1-0 in 2009 and Notre Dame 1-0 in 2010.
During the 2011 spring season Santa Clara beat Stanford 2-0 but Stanford came into Buck Shaw during the 2011 regular season and beat the Broncos 2-0. It was one of only two losses on the season for Santa Clara.
Fresno State finished its season 11-5-5 overall with a 3-1-1 mark in the Western Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs were able to tie then-No. 21 LMU 0-0 and then-No. 8 Pepperdine 0-0. Their season ended with a 1-0 loss vs. Utah State in the WAC Tournament.
