April 17, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's soccer team defeated California 1-0 this evening in a spring scrimmage held at Santa Clara High School. Junior Tracy Hess scored the game-winner.

The score started with a great right-footed cross from sophomore Megan Kakadelas from the right side of the field. Hess one-timed it from about eight yards out.

The Broncos opened the spring season with a 1-0 loss to Nebraska last weekend, and will return to the field on Sunday, April 27, taking part in Cal's Seven-a-Side tournament in Berkeley.

Santa Clara went 20-5-1 in 2002, advancing to the NCAA College Cup final for the second consecutive season. The Broncos fell to West Coast Conference rival Portland 2-1 in double overtime. Santa Clara won the 2001 NCAA Championship.
