Day 2 Results - U.S. Amateur Public Links Women's Championship

June 19, 2003

PALM COAST, Fla. - Santa Clara University women's golfer Meggie Fagundes fired a second round score of 16-over par, 88, and finished in a tie for 124th with her two-day total of 29-over par, 173, at the Ocean Hammock Golf Club in Palm Coast, Fla.

The freshman from Atwater, Calif., finished 16 shots out of the top-64 who all advanced to the match play portion of the 27th U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

Fagundes had a rough go of things on her front nine, posting one birdie, one par, one double bogie and six bogies for a 7-over par, 43, on the outward nine. The back nine proved a little more treacherous as she recorded four pars, two bogies, two double bogies and a triple bogie to come in with a 9-over par, 45, on the inward nine.

Despite the scores, Fagundes will undoubtedly benefit from her play at such a prestigious event. She is the first Santa Clara player in the women's golf program history to have qualified for a U.S. Amateur event. She was one of only 144 qualifiers this year from around the country.
