Broncos Take 3rd At Coast BMW College Challenge

NIPOMO, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's golf program opened its 2008 fall schedule with a third place finish at the Coast BMW College Challenge held at the Monarch Dunes Golf Course in Nipomo, Calif. The Broncos were led by freshman Meaghan Kari and sophomore Miki Ueoka, who finished tied for fifth and tied for eighth, respectively.

Kari rebounded from an opening round 83 (+11) to shoot 77 and 76 in the second and final rounds, respectively. Her two day total was 236/+23. Ueoka also shot 83 in the first round. She improved to 75 and 79 in the final two rounds to finish 237/+24. Her second round score was the broncos lowest of the tournament.

Santa Clara also had three additional top-20 finishers in sophomore Katie Sharpe, junior Jamie Nonaka and freshman Tammy Surtees.

Sharpe tied for 12th with a 243/+30 (83-81-79) overall performance, while Nonaka tied for 16th with a total of 244/+31 (80-84-80). Surtees tied for 19th with a score of 246/+33. Senior Erin Sullivan rounded out the Bronco performers this week with a tied for 24th finish at 255/+42 (87-83-85). As a team, the Broncos had the second-best par-3 scoring, while collected 15 team birdies.

UC Irvine won the event with a final team score of 909/+57, with Jane Chin finishing first with a score of 216/+3 (72-72-71).
