Women's Golf Fires Record-Low Round of 311

Oct. 6, 2003

FRESNO, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team posted an all-time record low team total of 311 in the first round of the Sacramento State Fall Invitational Monday afternoon. The Broncos lead the three-team event by 25 and 27 strokes over Sacramento State and Cal Poly.

Courtney Dimpel-Composti fired a team-low score of 1-over par, 74 to lead the event after the first round. Samantha Trask followed closely behind with her 77 while Meggie Fagundes posted a 78. Candice Palmer and Jessica Lamberty rounded out the Bronco scores with rounds of 82.

Head coach Polly Schulze was happy with her team's effort on the day as she expected this team to break the five-year-old record of 312, but she didn't think it would happen in only the second event of the season.

"The girls played really well today," said Schulze. "To have them break the record so soon in the season is a real plus and I think it can be a springboard to bigger and better things this season."

The Sacramento State Invite is being played at the par-73, 5,900-yard Riverside Golf Course in Fresno, Calif. The second and final round will be played Tuesday afternoon.
