Women's Golf Leads Matador Spring Invitational

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team is currently leading the Matador Spring Invitational, hosted by Cal State Northridge at Simi Hills Golf Club in Simi Valley.

The Broncos played to a team round of 311, 27-over par. The host Matadors are two strokes back with 313, while Sacramento State is right behind, three strokes off the lead. Cal Poly rounds out the four-team field with a 39-over 323.

Individually, the Broncos are led by Candice Palmer, who finished her round with a five-over par 76, good for fourth place. Samantha Trask is one place behind her teammate, in a three-way tie for fifth at 77. Courtney Dimpel-Composti and Meggie Fagundes are tied for ninth place, with eight-over 79s. Paige Wilson rounds out the Bronco lineup with a 92, good for 24th place.

Saki Uechi of UCLA leads the individual competition after scoring the only even-par round of the day. She fired a 71 and has a three-stroke lead over her Bruin teammate Hana Kim. Both are competing as individuals.

Tuesday's second and final round will begin tomorrow morning.
