Women's Golf Battles Showers In Pleasanton

First-Round Results

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Battling intermittent showers throughout the day, the Santa Clara women's golf team finished the first day of the Spartan Invitational in 11th place in a stacked field on the hill course of Pleasanton's Castlewood Country Club.

Samantha Trask and Jenny Nelson paced the Broncos with rounds of 81, while Corey Utsurogi carded an 82, Ella Sanman an 85 and Candice Palmer finished the day with an 87.

Eriko Sato and Hilaire Fouts, competing as individuals, shot rounds of 86 and 92, respectively.

Host San Jose State and San Francisco are tied in the team competition after the first day with scores of 309. Fresno State sits in third place, four strokes back at 313.

Individually, USF's Kristin Nichols leads the field with a one-under 71 while SJSU's Erica Moston is right behind her with an even-par 72.

The Broncos return to action tomorrow in Pleasanton seeking to climb their way to their third-straight top-five finish.
