Women's Golf in Third Place after First Round
Feb. 26, 2002
ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's golf team sits in third place after day one of a four-team tournament being held in Arroyo Grande, Calif., at the 5,916 yard par-72 Cypress Ridge Golf Club. The Broncos tail host Cal Poly by 22 strokes and Cal State Northridge by 14, but lead the Cal Poly B squad by 39 shots following the first round of play. Courtney Dimpel-Composti and Jennifer Taylor each shot opening rounds of 84, while Jessica Lamberty and Kelly Wendorff shot rounds of 85 and 86, respectively to round out the Bronco scoring. Caitlyn McNary finished out of the scoring for Santa Clara on day one after shooting a 97. Dimpel-Composti and Taylor trail Staci Davison of Cal Poly by only six strokes entering round two Tuesday morning. "This was a tremendous improvement over our last time out," said head coach Polly Shculze. "Our hope is now that we can go out tomorrow morning and lower our scores even further." Santa Clara also added five birdies to their season total, which now stands at 20, for its "Birdies for Wishes" fundraiser that is going on all season long. The Broncos have secured pledges for each birdie they make this season and will donate all of the money to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help terminally ill children. Team Scores
