Santa Clara Falls to Ninth at Lady Braveheart Challenge

Feb. 13, 2008

Beaumont, Calif. -- In fourth place after the first round and in great position to move up on the final day of the Lady Braveheart Challenge the Santa Clara women's golf team stumbled a bit on the way to their ninth place finish. Miki Ueoka, within on shot of the lead after the first day, shot an 82 en route to a fourth place finish.

Freshman Ueoka, who had not been playing like a freshman as of late, had a difficult final round and finished at +11 still good for her second straight top-five finish. Corey Utsurogi was the lone Bronco to improve her scoring after the first day, shot an 81 and finished at +19 and just outside of a top-20 finish, tied for 21st. Katie Sharpe finished with an 85 and was +25 overall and Hilaire Fouts was the final scorer for Santa Clara with a final round 87 and finished at +29. Jamie Nonaka shot rounds of 87 and 88 respectively to end the tournament at +31.

"We're disappointed with our finish," said head coach Polly Schulze. "But we will work hard to prepare for Fresno."

The Broncos resume play in two weeks at the Fresno State Kitahara.
