PROVO, Utah – Senior Annie Freman rebounded from a sub-par first round to score a team-best 2-over 74 on Friday, climbing four spots on the individual leaderboard after two rounds of the WCC Championship. Santa Clara women's golf remains in fifth place with a team score of 620 heading into Saturday's final round on the 6,452-yard Riverside Country Club layout.
The Broncos scored a second round 311 to fall off the pace. Favorites BYU and Pepperdine will battle for the title on Saturday with the Cougars holding a three-stroke advantage after 36 holes. San Francisco is in third place, 29 shots behind the Waves.
"Tough day," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "We need to work on our placement coming into the greens. We were past too many pins today."
Freman moved into 16th place at 10-over 154 with the Broncos best round of the day. She trails teammate Kyleigh Moreno by a stroke. Moreno carded a second-round 79 and sits in 15th at 9-over 153.
Following today's 77, junior Kristin Le is tied for 10th with a trio of golfers at 7-over 151. Everyone is chasing Pepperdine's Hira Naveed, the only player to shoot below-par at 1-under 143.
"I expect harder hole locations tomorrow so we need to be diligent about club selection to the greens," Kelly said. "As long as they stay patient we will play well tomorrow. We're not out of it, so a good score will put us in the mix for a third or fourth place finish."
Final round action gets underway Saturday at 7:20 a.m. PT. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
