Women’s Golf Tied For Fifth After Round One Of Anuenue Spring Break Classic

KAPALUA, Maui – Led by junior Kaci McCartan's even-par 72, the Santa Clara women's golf team is tied for fifth place after the first round of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic played on the Bay Course in Kapalua, Maui.

McCartan carded four birdies and was at 2-under through 13 holes before settling for her first even-par round of the year. She ended the first day tied for sixth place with a trio of golfers, just two shots behind co-leaders Grace Na of Pepperdine, Ying Luo from Washington and Betty Chen of UC Davis, who all finished at 2-under 70.

Sophomore Meghan Shain carded a tournament-high 14 first round pars and ended in a tie for 12th place with a 2-over 74, helping the Broncos to a fifth place tie with 49th ranked Colorado at 301. Pepperdine and Washington both scored a 290 to top the team leaderboard, six shots better than San José State and eight strokes ahead of UC Davis.

Monique Riley birdied her first and last hole of the day and finished tied for 21st with a 3-over 75. Annie Freman finished at 8-over 80 and Taylor Camany shot an 85.
