Women’s Golf To Compete In Final Tournament Of Fall Season
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off a team and individual title at their own Colby Invitational last week, the Santa Clara women's golf team will tee off its final tournament of the fall season Monday when they compete in the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Women's Invitational at the par-73, 6,215-yard Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
Teams and individuals will play 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday for a total of 36. Host Cal Poly will field two teams for the event and, along with Santa Clara, UC Riverside, Cal State Monterey Bay, Southern Utah, Seattle, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Bakersfield, Weber State, Dixie State and Sonoma State are also scheduled to compete.
The Broncos' win last week was its second in five fall tournaments, matching the most wins in a season for the program. Both team titles also featured an individual champion as well. Freshman Annie Freman outlasted teammate Sadie Strain in a sudden-death playoff that lasted two holes to claim her first title at the Colby Invitational while junior Kaci McCartan earned her first title at the Boise State Bronco Fall Invitational on Sept. 17.
The team's impressive run of success also includes a top-10 finish in every event and nine individual top-10 placements. "It tells me that we're doing a lot of things right," head coach Krystal Kelly after the Colby Invitational.
Freman has been the team's top individual finisher in each of the last three events and in four of the five. She has placed among the overall top-10 four times with an 11th place finish in her other event.
All nine players will compete in the tournament, according to Kelly, with a team lineup undetermined.
