ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – Playing in the program's final event of the fall season, the Santa Clara University women's golf team looks to build on their victory two weeks ago when they tee it up at Cypress Ridge Golf Course on California's Central Coast Monday and Tuesday, November 7-8, 2011.
The Broncos won the team title and sophomore Taylor Camany claimed individual medalist honors at the SCU Colby Invitational Oct. 24-25. Santa Clara outplayed this week's tournament host Cal Poly by 20 strokes in that event.
"We are trying to build on our experience from the Colby and focus more on each shot, one at a time," said second-year Santa Clara head coach Krystal Kelly. "The girls are practicing more efficiently and I've created some new pressure drills for them to work on in pairs. We want to focus on the pre-shot routine, and then be able to better execute the shot."
SCU posted season-best rounds of 304 and 307 two weeks ago. Camany and teammate Balbina Guajardo finished one and two, while Tamara Surtees and Morgan McClure (pictured) came in among the Colby's top 10.
"I want to see them play like they did at the Colby," said Kelly. "They were very patient out there, double checking yardage, paying attention to the elements, and finally committing to the shot. It will be a great way to end our fall season, I have decided to take all eight players so they can all gain more experience as well as do some team building."
Santa Clara's line up: (1) Taylor Camany (2) Balbina Guajardo (3) Tamara Surtees (4) Morgan McClure (5) Brooke Stephens; IND: Kelsy O'Brien, Kaci McCartan, Casey Briggs
