SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's golf sophomore Miki Ueoka was named the West Coast Conference's Women's Golf Player of the Month for February; it was announced this week by the league. She was one of two Broncos to earn the honor as senior John Bryant was named Player of the Month for men's basketball.
A heavy favorite going into the 2009 Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic, Ueoka earned her second career individual title as she finished seven-under par 209 (68-69-72) and posted the two best rounds ever by a Broncos on the first day. In the third in final round, she was an even 72. Her medalist finish was ahead of four nationally ranked players.
Earlier in the month, the Lihue, Hawaii native finished second at the UC Riverside Lady Braveheart. She was just one stroke behind first place. In the fall, Ueoka medaled at the Boise State Bronco Invitational with back-to-back rounds of 70.
Ueoka and the Broncos return to action on March 23-24 at the Sacramento State Invitational. The two-day event will be held at Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove, Calif.
