Santa Cruz, Calif. -- The Santa Clara women's golf team took second place at this week's UCSC Spring Invite in Santa Cruz. Corey Utsurogi led the Broncos with a second place finish at +12, just one shot out of first place.
Utsurogi was tied for first going into the second and final round with Sage Suffecool of Gonzago after a first round score of 78. She tied her score with a second round 78, but Suffecool shot a 77 to take the win.
Hilaire Fouts notched her first top-ten finish of the year. Tied for third place with a first round 80, she shot a second round 88 to finish the tournament at +24 and in 10th place. Katie Sharpe took 11th, just one shot behind Fouts at +25 with rounds of 87 and 82.
Jamie Nonaka had a difficult first round with a 91, but bounced back strong with the sixth best second round, an 80, to take 13th place at +27.
This was the Broncos' last tournament for a month. They play next on April 11 at Stanford in the Peg Barnard Invitational. This time off should give freshman sensation Miki Ueoka time to get back into things and be ready for the final tournament of the year before the WCC Championships.
