Fresno, Calif. -- Miki Ueoka recorded her third straight top ten finish at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational as the Santa Clara women's golf team took home 12th place in the two round event.
Ueoka, who was tied for fifth place after the first round at +1, struggled in her first nine holes, going four-over, but birdies three holes on her final nine to finish as two-over for the day with a 74 and +3 for the tournament, good for a tie for sixth place.
Jenny Nelson was the next Bronco finisher. After a first round of 79, she was heading for a second round score of 76 before a double bogey gave her a 78 for the day and +13 for the tournament.
Corey Utsurogi battled back from a difficult first round. After going five-over on her first nine holes, Utsurogi settled down to go +1 for her last nine and tied Nelson with a 78 on the day and was +15 overall.
Katie Sharpe had a very promising first round of 75, just three-over par. She was just eight-over on the day going into her final two holes, but back-to-back triple bogeys to finish the tournament gave her a final round score of 86 and a +17 total for the tourmanent.
Jamie Nonaka was +8 after the first day of play, but a second round of 86 kept her out of the scoring for Santa Clara. She finished +22 overall.
The team was shooting for a 310 round and hit it on the first day with a 307, but rounds were a little higher for most teams on the second day and Santa Clara checked in at 316. Tulsa won the tournament with a score of +14 and Taylor Siebert of Fresno State took the individual title with a score of even par.
The Broncos tee it back up next week at the Spartan Invitational, hosted by San Jose State. The three-round tournament is March 3 and 4 at Almaden Country Club in San Jose, Calif. Both days will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
