SANTA CLARA, Calif. --The Santa Clara women's golf team announced today the signing of two players to national letters of intent in the early signing period. The Broncos signed Miki Ueoka from Lihue, Hawaii and Katie Sharpe from Bellingham, Washington, both of which will enter Santa Clara as freshmen in 2007.
"We are extremely excited about the signing of Miki and Katie", said head coach Polly Schulze. "I watched both Miki and Katie compete at Junior Worlds in San Diego against the best juniors in the world and I know they possess the ability and drive to succeed at the collegiate level."
In addition to participating in the junior world championships this summer, Ueoka also qualified for the PGA Westfield, a prestigious junior event in Ohio. Ueoka established herself as one of the best junior golfers in the state of Hawaii.
Sharpe, has been a Top-15 player in her high school league since her sophomore year, and was the top player in the Northwest League in her senior year. Sharpe took first place in her district, and represented her high school at the State Championships in Washington.
Head coach Polly Schulze has identified the signing of Ueoka and Sharpe for 2007 as one of the strongest recruiting classes to date.
"The future of the program is brighter than ever", Schulze exclaimed. "We can't wait for them to arrive on campus in 2007."
