CARMEL, Calif. - Despite overnight showers that delayed the start of the final round of the Santa Clara Colby Invitational, the field of 69 golfers were able to get the final 18 in as the Santa Clara women's golf team wrapped up their fourth top-five finish in their last five starts with a third-place effort out of 13 teams on the West Course of the Rancho Canada Golf Club.

From here the Broncos will practice and prepare for the next three weeks before returning to action at the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford from April 8-9.

Battling the wet grounds and tricky greens due to the standing water, Megan Stoddart and Corey Utsurogi paced the Santa Clara "Red" squad with final round scores of 80 on Tuesday. Candice Palmer followed right behind with an 81 while Jenny Nelson and Samantha Trask rounded things out with scores of 86 and 88. Stoddart's two-round total of 152 was good for a fifth-place finish in the individual competition, nine strokes back of winner Eileen Vargas of Pepperdine.

The Santa Clara "White" squad also braved the damp conditions, in this case to a tenth-place finish. Hilaire Fouts led the way Tuesday with a final-round 82 while Eriko Sato shot an 83. Ella Sanman finished up with a round of 88 while Jennifer Sun shot a 92 and Whitney Saulsberry carded a 94. Competing as an individual, Paige Wilson turned in a final-round 96.

"The greens were very difficult to read with a lot of standing water, we're going to work on our putting a lot in the next couple of weeks," said head coach Polly Schulze. "But we are happy with another top-three finish, and things will continue to look up for our team. We're happy with our result in this tournament."

In the team competition, Pepperdine took its first-round lead all the way to the end with a team round of 300 Tuesday for the tournament title. Including Vargas taking the individual title, the Waves claimed seven of the top ten slots on the leaderboard.

One highlight of Tuesday's round was Pepperdine's Nicole Montgomery acing the Par-3 7th hole.
