OAHU, Hawaii - The Santa Clara University women's golf team fired a final round 309 Wednesday morning at the Kent Youel Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii at the 5,900-yard, Kaplei Golf Course on the island of Ohau. The score was 10 shots better than the 319 the Broncos had put up in the first two rounds, allowing them to move up one spot on day two and finish in 15th place out of 17 teams.
Courtney Dimpel-Composti and Samantha Trask each fired a 5-over par, 77, on Wednesday to lead the Bronco scoring. Dimpel-Composti finished the tournament in a tie for 34th place with her three round total of 232, while Trask finished in a tie for 64th with her 241 total.
Candice Palmer carded a final round 79 to end the tournament in a tie for 52nd with her 20-over par total of 236. She was followed closely by Meggie Fagundes who ended up in a tie for 56th, just two shots back of Palmer following her final round of 4-over par, 76, which was the best score of the day for SCU. Jessica Lamberty rounded out the Bronco scores with her tournament total of 260 after she posted a final round score of 89.
The University of Oklahoma won the team crown with their team total of 25-over par, 889, finishing two strokes ahead of the University of Washington. San Jose State and Long Beach State finished in a tie for third place with their team total of 907.
Paige Mackenzie of Washington claimed Medallist honors with her three round total of 2-under par, 214 following rounds of 72, 71 and 71. Lisa Meldrum of Oklahoma carded a final round score of 3-under par, 69, to finish in second place for the tournament with her two day total of 1-under par, 215.
The tournament was the last of the fall season for the Broncos who will return to action on February 17-18 at the annual Bay Area Classic hosted by California in Vallejo, Calif.
