March 25, 2005

LOS GATOS, Calif. - Racing on its home course at Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos, Calif., the Santa Clara men's crew fell to UC San Diego in each of the four races at the UC San Diego Dual Meet.

"I have a lot of respect for the UC San Diego Crew and for what Coach Mark Davis has done with that program in the last couple of years," said head coach Tony Barcia. "They came out today, raced well, and got the job done."

The morning began at 8:30 a.m. with the varsity eight race. The Tritons claimed the win in a time of 6:20.7, while Santa Clara crossed the line in a time of 6:32.9. Next up, the novice eight boats took to the water. UCSD pulled a time of 6:30.3, while SCU came across at 7:18.3.

The third race of the day also featured novice eight boats with UC San Diego coming in at 7:02. The Broncos followed in a time of 7:13.4. The final race of the day feature the varsity four boats as UCSD had two in the water. The first Tritons boat crossed the line in a time of 7:33.3, while the second UCSD boat came in at 7:43.9. The Broncos pulled a time of 7:46.8 to place third.

"We were fatigued going into the race but we put up a good fight and came up a little short," said junior Tony Guglielmi. "The lessons we learned this week will help us as we move into the thick of the season and especially in our preparation for the San Diego Crew Classic next weekend."

The dual meet concluded an intense week of training over spring break for the Broncos. Next week, both SCU crew programs will head to San Diego for the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay. Competition will take place on both Saturday and Sunday with action beginning at 7 a.m. both mornings.
