SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's and women's crew will both race in the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic held in historic Mission Bay this weekend in San Diego, Calif.
Both teams are coming off encouraging performances against Stanford last week at Redwood Shores, and seemed poised for another good showing in San Diego.
The men's varsity will begin the quest for the Cal Cup title in heat B, racing against Gonzaga, Washington State, Puget Sound, UMass, Colorado and Chapman. The men's lightweight squad will race in heat B against Texas, UCSB and Long Beach State.
The women's varsity will vie for the Cal Cup in heat A, going up against Duke, San Diego State, Minnesota, USD, UCLA and Long Beach State. The women's lightweight will race in heat A as well, rowing against Washington State, UCSD, Texas, Cal, Stanford and UC Davis.
In both the men's and women's events, the top seven finishers from the three heats in each race will advance on to Sunday's championship. The women's lightweight championship race will begin at 9:20 a.m., followed immediately by the men's lightweight. The women's Cal Cup is scheduled to start at 9:40 a.m., followed by the men's Cal Cup at 9:50.
