SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball stays in Illinois to take on Illinois-Chicago Saturday at 11 a.m. Pacific.
On Wednesday, the Broncos fell to Northwestern in their first road game of the year.
This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
Santa Clara (1-3) is scoring 56.8 points per game this year on 38.2-percent shooting from the floor and 28.3-percent from beyond the arc. The Broncos are forcing 17.3 turnovers per game while collecting 10.5 steals per game.
Kyla Martin leads the team with 10.5 ppg and 5.0 apg. She is also second with 2.3 spg. Morgan McGwire is scoring 9.3 ppg with a team-high 6.5 rpg. She also leads the team with 3.8 spg and 1.5 blocks per game. Taylor Berry is adding 8.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg while Ashlyn Herlihy scores 7.5 ppg and chips in 4.8 rpg.
Illinois-Chicago (2-1) has picked up wins over Bethel and at Fort Wayne while falling to Jackson State at home. The Flames are averaging 65.3 ppg while allowing 57.7 and hold a plus-6.3 rebounding edge over opponents. As a team, they shoot 39.9-percent from the field but just 21.1-percent from downtown.
Taylor Toney and Brittany Byrd are the main offensive weapons and the only two players averaging double-figures. Toney leads the team with 21.3 ppg on 50.0-percent shooting from the field and is 20-for-25 from the charity stripe. She also leads the team with 7.3 rpg, 3.7 spg, and 3.3 apg. Byrd is scoring 16.0 ppg while bringing down 6.0 rpg. She is shooting 32.6-percent from the field and has gotten to the line 25 times.
