Santa Clara Suffers Road Loss at UC Davis
DAVIS, Calif. – Newcomers Lindsay Leo, Ricki Radanovich and Iman Scott posted season-highs in points for the Broncos but Big West favorite UC Davis prevailed on its home floor Monday night at The Pavilion, beating Santa Clara 70-54.
Santa Clara (2-10) received 14 points and 13 rebounds from Leo and nine from Scott – former teammates at San Jose's Archbishop Mitty High School. Radanovich, a true freshman from Carondelet High School, made all eight of her free throws to finish with 13 points.
Blair Shinoda came off the bench to make 6 of 6 attempts from the floor to lead all UCD scorers with 14 points. Paige Mintun had 13 points in 20 minutes, including a buzzer-beating basket prior to halftime to put the Aggies up 40-21 at the break.
The Aggies had 20 steals as a team, forcing the Broncos into 34 turnovers. Santa Clara was just 2 of 22 from 3-point range.
UC Davis (10-2) is off to its best start in its Division I history. The Aggies – picked to win the Big West Conference - have won 13-straight at home. It marks the team's fourth win over a WCC team this season.
With SCU leading scorer Meagan Fulps in foul trouble, UC Davis was able to lead by as many as 32 points midway through the second half. Fulps, who came in averaging 12.4 points per night, was held scoreless for the first time since Davis held her scoreless last season at the Leavey Center.
SCU will look to bounce back on Thursday when the Broncos play at Cal Poly SLO in San Luis Obispo. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m.
