SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Following another outstanding week which saw her help lead the Santa Clara women's basketball team to a pair of victories and to the .500 mark, senior guard Michelle Cozad earned her fourth WCC Player of the Week honor, the conference office announced today.
In wins last week over CS Northridge and Ball State, Cozad averaged 21.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals. She posted her fourth consecutive double-double in Wednesday's win over CS Northridge with 20 points and 12 rebounds, and narrowly missed her fifth against Ball State, scoring 23 and pulling down nine rebounds.
For the season, Cozad continues to lead the WCC in scoring, rebounding and three-pointers made. Last week's performances upped hr scoring and rebounding averages to 19.3 and 9.8 a game, respectively, and her conference-leading trey total now stands at 38. Additionally, her 51.4% accuracy (38-for-74) from behind the arc stands second in the conference behind teammate Ashley Graham.
For the first time this season, Santa Clara Basketball swept the Player of the Week awards, as on the men's side, senior forward Travis Niesen earned Player of the Week honors after being named MVP of the Cable Car Classic last week.
Cozad and the Broncos will take the court tonight at Fresno State in pursuit of their fifth win in a row at 7 p.m. in their non-conference finale.
