SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara senior forward Annie Garrison was named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Month for January, the league announced this afternoon.
Garrison, of Saratoga, averaged 15.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game as the Broncos rolled to a 7-1 record last month. She scored in double figures six times and notched two double-doubles. One of those was a 16-point and career-high 18-rebound performance against Loyola Marymount that helped her earn Player of the Week honors for Jan. 15. She also scored her 1,000th career point in a 25-point, 10-rebound performance at San Francisco. Garrison shot more than 80 percent from the floor in five of Santa Clara's eight games, and 67.2 percent for the month, and was 79.5 percent from the free throw line. She ended the month as the WCC's leader in field goal percentage and blocked shots during conference play, as well as the second-leading scorer and third-leading rebounder.
The Broncos, 15-5, 6-2 WCC, remain on the road, returning to Southern California for rematches at Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine this weekend. Santa Clara will play the Lions on Friday, Feb. 9 in Los Angeles and against the Waves the following night, Saturday, Feb. 10, in Malibu. Both games will begin at 7 p.m. at their respective venues.
