Men's Water Polo Falls to Long Beach State, 11-4 in Santa Cruz

Nov. 6, 2004

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's water polo team continued its hectic weekend schedule on Saturday, falling to ninth-ranked Long Beach State, 11-4, in Santa Cruz, Calif. After the day's action, the Broncos are now 9-18 on the season.

"This is a good match to build off of as we move towards the WWPA Championships," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "Long Beach is a top-10 team and we played well. We just had some breakdowns that they were able to take advantage of."

After recording a hat trick in Friday's match against UC Davis, Danny Soares continued to lead the Bronco offense as he was one of four Broncos to score in the contest. Kenny Flanagan-De La Hoz, Luke Oda and Austin Brizgys also found the back of the net for SCU.

Goalkeeper Peter Moore was the leader on the defensive end, posting 13 saves to go along with an assist and a steal. Kevin Starry was also a defensive star for Santa Clara with three steals on the day.

The Broncos will face another top program tomorrow when they travel to Berkeley for a 9:00 a.m. match-up with fourth-ranked California.
