No. 16 Broncos to Take on No. 11 UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 16 Santa Clara men's water polo team looks to take the season series this against two conference foes this weekend as they host No. 11 UC Davis on Saturday, Nov. 15 at noon, followed by UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, Nov. 16 at noon in their final regular season action of the 2008 campaign. Both games will be played at the Sullivan Aquatic Center and this will be the third time the Broncos will face Davis this season and the second time they will take on Santa Cruz. This week Santa Clara fell a place in the national rankings to No. 16 and post a 14-11 overall, 8-4 WWPA record, for fourth in the WWPA conference standings. Junior Mike Sorgenfrei earned WWPA Top Performer honors for the week of Nov. 10, for his strong performance last weekend versus then No. 8 UC San Diego.

Last Week for the Broncos
The Broncos fell, 13-9, in a tough game against a talented then No. 8 UC San Diego team on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Broncos were led by this week's WWPA Top Performer Mike Sorgenfrei. The junior had standout game, scoring two goals, posting an assist and drawing two kick outs. Redshirt junior Jack Wall notched three goals and goalie Michael Wishart posted 12 blocks. Junior Liam Farrell assisted on three bronco goals and also added a steal. Mitchell Klipa had another strong game at 2-meter defense as he notched three steals and a kick out drawn.

Broncos Celebrate Senior Day
On Sunday, Nov. 16, the Santa Clara men's water polo team will honor the graduating class of 2008 in a ceremony prior to their game versus UC Santa Cruz. This years senior class is made up of four redshirt seniors: Mike Detoy, Josh Early, Andrew Fitch, and Chris Parolin.

Bronco Blogs
This season redshirt senior Josh Early and sophomore Stephen Hobbs will be sharing duties writing the men's water polo team blog. The duo will give fans an insider's view of the team and how the season has progressed.

Sorgenfrei Named WWPA Top Performer
Junior Mike Sorgenfrei was named a WWPA Top Performer for the week of Nov. 10. Sorgenfrei led the Broncos' offensive attacks versus then No. 8 UC San Diego. He scored two goals, posted an assist and drew two kick outs.

Scouting No. 11 UC Davis
The No. 11 UC Davis Aggies travel to the Sullivan Aquatic Center after going 1-1 this past weekend versus UC San Diego and UC Santa Cruz. The Aggies dropped their match against UC San Diego 6-9, but rebounded to beat UC Santa Cruz 14-3. This season the Aggies post a 10-14 overall, 7-4 WWPA record. Leading UC Davis this year is senior Adam Bennett, who has 53 goals on the season. UC Davis is led by head coach Steve Doten, who is in his 8th season at the head of the Aggie program. This will be the third time SCU will take on Davis this season. In their first meeting at on Sept. 28 at the Slugfest Tournament at UC Santa Cruz, the Broncos upset the Aggies 10-8. This was the first time in five seasons that Santa Clara had defeated Davis. In their second meeting in Davis, the Broncos could not get the scoring advantage and fell 12-7 to the conference rival.

Scouting UC Santa Cruz
Santa Clara will host the 1-17 overall, 0-12 WWPA, Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz. The Slugs have had a very tough season, only prevailing in one game this season. They go into this weekend's contest after falling to UC Davis on Nov. 9, 14-3. Prior to coming to Santa Clara, Santa Cruz will face top-ranked USC at home. The Broncos hold a 1-0 advantage this season over the Slugs, as they breezed by Santa Cruz, 17-3, on Oct. 12 in Santa Cruz. It was SCU's biggest win of the season, as 13 Broncos got on the board in the game.
