Santa Clara, Calif. - The No. 18 Santa Clara men's water polo team had a fantastic performance at the Convergence Tournament last weekend, boasting a 4-0 record, including victories over three conference rivals. However the NorCal Tournament, hosted by UC Berkeley, this Saturdady and Sunday, will be a true gauge of just how far the Broncos (12-6, 10-4 WWPA) have improved over the course of the season.
"We're playing one of the most difficult tournaments in the year this weekend, as 15 of the 16 teams are ranked in the Top 20. We'll see some great competition so the team is really excited," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "It will be a good test to see how we stack up against the best in the country."
Up first for SCU will be No. 2 Southern California on Saturday, October 15. The match will be played at 8 a.m. at Miramonte High School, in nearby Orinda, Calif. In addition to the Trojans, No. 6 UC Irvine and No. 9 Pacific are in the same bracket as the Broncos.
