Tennis Teams Host Successful Kids Clinic

Nov. 16, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Bronco Men's and Women's Tennis Teams hosted a free tennis clinic for kids this past Saturday at the Santa Clara University Tennis Center.

The clinic taught the basics of tennis through a variety of tennis games and contests. The clinic also included a tour of Santa Clara athletic facilities, a chance to get to know Bronco tennis players and a surprise visit from Bucky the Bronco.

For Bronco Kid Samantha Gisi, the clinic provided a first introduction to tennis. Gisi, age 10, gave her overall experience an enthusiastic review. Her favorite part of the clinic was when they played games, and she especially liked Santa Clara Women's Tennis player Pati Ruiz, who she noted was nice and a good teacher.

Bronco Kid Nicole Klug, age 9, really hopes that there are more tennis clinics like this in the future. "I would definitely do it again, even if it meant that I had to miss volleyball. They explained things in a really good way through games."

The clinic was the product of a class project for Professor Doug Sweet's Writing for Business class. The group consisted of Tamra Bidegary, Lindsay Back, Meghan Freeman and Women's Tennis Senior Christine Limbers. The group was tasked with creating promotional material for the clinic, developing content for the clinic, as well as soliciting sponsors to provide the food and prizes for the Kids.
