Feb. 23, 2002

MALIBU, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's tennis team fell to 10th-ranked Pepperdine this afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu. With the victory, the Waves improve to 9-2 on the season. SCU falls to 3-3, 1-1 in West Coast Conference play.

Senior Victor Camargo was the highlight for the Broncos, preventing the shut out with his come-from-behind victory on the third singles court. He defeated Steve Racioppi 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Pepperdine secured the doubles point and then one five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

"They're a better team than we are right now," assistant coach George Husack said. "We made too many mistakes, we have to be more consistent with our shots."

The Broncos return to the Bay Area but remain on the road. SCU will visit top-ranked Stanford on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
