Men's Tennis Edged by UC Santa Barbara

Feb. 22, 2002

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After a four-hour grueling match that saw four of six singles matches go the distance, the Santa Clara University men's tennis team was edged by UC Santa Barbara 4-3 this evening in non-conference action at the UCSB tennis courts.

The Gauchos nabbed the doubles point with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles. The Broncos rallied, with huge wins by senior Victor Camargo and freshman Francisco Zepponi.

Although UC Santa Barbara had a raucous crowd, the Broncos were able to counter thanks to the cheering of the SCU softball team, who was also on campus for UCSB's Softball by the Beach Invitational.

"The doubles point turned out to be big," assistant coach George Husack said. "We definitely had our shots, but we're just going to have to keep grinding. We have a top-10 team in Pepperdine tomorrow. We're looking to rebound and do something special there."
