Broncos Sweep Sonoma State 7-0

Feb. 20, 2010

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 74 ranked Santa Clara men's tennis team hosted No. 41 Sonoma State on Saturday afternoon and extended its win streak to three with a strong 7-0 victory. The Broncos move to 6-2 on the season with the win.

The Broncos started the day off with a clean sweep in doubles play. Pairs of Andrew Kells and Grant Fleming, and freshman duo Tom Pham and Eugene Muchynski both grabbed 8-1 decisions over their opponents.

A singles lineup boasting four SCU freshmen proved too much for Sonoma State to handle. Pham, Muchynski, Fleming, and Nick Buckley grabbed wins in the No. 3 through 6 singles positions. Sophomore Kyle Dandan took a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Connor Olson at the No. 1 position, while Jay Wong swept Taylor Bianco in two sets, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot.

Weather permitting, the Broncos will take the court on Sunday, Feb. 21 versus West Coast Conference opponent Loyola Marymount and look to extend their win streak to four. First serve is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Degheri Tennis Center.
