Men's Tennis Wins Second Match of Day

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's tennis team won its second match of the day, defeating UC Davis by a score of 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the Santa Clara University Tennis Center.

Despite playing a match earlier in the day, the Broncos still appeared fresh from the get go as they swept all three doubles matches to give them a 1-0 lead going into singles play.

Michael Duong and Francisco Zepponi made quick work of Rich Galang and Ross Barasche by beating them 8-3 in the No. 3 doubles match. Taylor Bedilion and Erich Chen also played well, handing Greg Ford and Joey Proietti an 8-6 loss in the No. 2 doubles match.

Chris Lam, who won a three-set match at No. 1 earlier in the day, rallied from down one set to defeat Yaro Vinogradsky by a score of 0-6, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 2 singles match. Duong continued to play well in the afternoon, disposing of Greg Lee in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 1 singles match.

Following its wins Sunday over both UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis, both by 7-0 scores, the Broncos improve 2-0 on the season with one match coming up next week. Santa Clara will travel to Berkeley, Calif., to take on the California Golden Bears, Saturday, February 2, at 2 p.m.
