Men’s Tennis Earns 4-1 Comeback Victory Over Gonzaga

SANTA CLARA, Calif. Santa Clara men's tennis picked up its first West Coast Conference victory of the season on Sunday. The Broncos defeated the Gonzaga Bulldogs by a score of 4-1 after losing the doubles point.

The Broncos (11-3, 1-2 WCC) lost a tightly contested doubles point to Gonzaga (6-6, 0-2 WCC). Sophomore Connor Garnett and freshman Vasileios Iliopoulos picked up a 6-4 win on court one but the Broncos fell 6-4 on both courts two and three.

Freshman Jesus Tapiador Barajas earned his second straight victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court four over Ronzai Saurombe. Iliopoulos posted a 6-2, 6-2 win on court five against Kyle Everly to give SCU a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Andrew Gu won 6-3, 6-2 against Vincent Rettke on court two for his seventh straight singles victory. Garnett clinched the win for the Broncos with his 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win on court three against Sam Feit.

Santa Clara resumes WCC action on Friday at 1 p.m. at Pacific. The team then plays at St. Mary's (CA) at 2 p.m.
