SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Santa Clara men's tennis program opens 2012 as the No. 50 nationally-ranked team, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The ranking is Santa Clara's highest opening poll ranking in school history.
The Broncos have posted school all-time bests in opening rankings in two consecutive seasons. Last year the Broncos began the year at No. 54 and finished the season at No. 49.
"It is definitely an accomplishment," said Santa Clara head coach Derek Mills. "It's a [start], but we can't be complacent. There is much more we expect to accomplish."
Santa Clara begins Spring play on Jan. 21 with contests against UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis and Sonoma State on Jan. 21. at Degheri Tennis Center on the Mission Campus.
