David Torres Reflects on Final Season with the Broncos

Written by Sofia Huerta '15

The Santa Clara Broncos catch up with senior David Torres (DT), a transfer student from Oxnard College who has earned his starting spot on the men's soccer team. After only starting four games for the Broncos last year, Torres is contributing to his team's success by picking up assists for some of the Bronco's victories. DT talks about his goals for the rest of the season and what his team needs to do to make it to the top of West Coast Conference.

SCB: How do you feel about being a starter in your final year as a Bronco?

DT:  It is a great feeling being a starter in my final year. It's a dream come true being a starter for a division one school. Especially after coming from a shoulder injury that required surgery and left me out of the field for five months. I am glad to see that my hard work over the summer is paying off thus far.

SCB: What do you contribute most to your team?

DT: I am a left full back, so I contribute the most to my team when I am able to give good crosses, and play good hard defense.

SCB: What are your goals for the rest of the season?

DT: My goals for the rest of the season are to win conference, and to keep playing the way I have been playing, being consistent.

SCB: What do you think your team needs to focus on going into the second half of the conference?

DT: We just need to focus on winning, and take it a game at a time. We are capable of winning every game, it is just a matter of staying focused and discipline.

SCB: What can you do to help your team to be successful in the upcoming games?

DT: Just being consistent with my performances, and staying positive.

SCB: With tough games on the road, what's your team's mindset?

DT: We know that we are better than all of the teams in our conference, so we are very optimistic about the second half of the season.
