ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Bronco men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season vs. Central Arkansas in their final match of the 2013 TLC Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Lobo Invitational. The final score of the game this morning was 2-0, which puts the Broncos at 1-4-0 and the Bears at 3-3-0.
The Broncos outshot the Bears 13-7 with Michael Gates and Max Ornstil leading the count with 3 shots each. Keigo Kameya scored for the Broncos today picking up his first goal of his senior season. The second goal for the Broncos was recorded as an own goal.
"The team played pretty well in the first half but lost purpose going forward in the second half," said Bronco head coach Cameron Rast. "Central Arkansas made it a difficult game for us and we will need to gain strength as the game progresses in order to take off of our defense."
After a large downpour in Albuquerque the night before the match, the men played their game on New Mexico's training field.
In the seventh minute of the game the Broncos jumped on the scoreboard as Kameya put in the first goal of the game off of a pass by James Huffer.
The second goal for the Broncos came in the 33rd min. of the first half as David Torres whipped a left footed cross into the Bears box for Carlos Montes. The ball was deflected off a defender into the net to make the score 2-0 for the Broncos.
Rast was very happy with the solid performance of senior captains Mark Daus and Phillip Muscarella. Freshman Holland Parker showed that he is ready to compete at the Division I level this weekend and Kendall McIntosh picked up his first shut out of the season.
