SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University freshman golfer Matt Klenz was selected as the West Coast Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for March after posting eight of nine rounds below 80, including a 69 at the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational.

Klenz finished the month of March with a scoring average of 74.8, and finishes of 1st, 24th and 54th in the Broncos three March Tournaments. His Medallist finish came at the UC Anteater Invitational where he won a six-man playoff on the first hole to take home the tournament crown.

His three-round total of 218 was made possible by a second round score of 3-under par, 69 at the SCPGA Champions Course in Calimesa, Calif. He helped the Broncos to a fourth place finish at the Anteater Invite, where 14 teams played for the championships.

Thus far this season his scoring average of 74.4 is tied for the lead on the Broncos with senior Sandy Horacek. He has had four top-10 finishes this season including a sixth place finish at the University of Hawaii Fall Invitational, and consecutive eighth place finishes at the Bronco Invitational and the Elco Inc. Invitational hosted by Cal State Bakersfield.

Additionally, 23 of his 25 rounds in competition this season have resulted in scores lower than 80 and he has been the Broncos low scorer in six of the nine tournaments this season.

Klenz and his teammates are currently in preparation for the WCC Championships next week at the Riverbend Golf Course in Madera, Calif. First and second round action will take place Monday, April 15, with the final round scheduled to be completed on Tuesday the 16th.
