Men's Golf Leads the Dusty Destruel Invitational
Nov. 6, 2000 SAN JOSE, Calif. - Santa Clara's men's golf team is currently in first place after two rounds of the Dusty Destruel Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara at the Silver Creek Valley Golf Course, a par-72 layout measuring 6,868 yards. Individual leader, and Bronco senior Michael Melling, was the only player in the 54-player tournament to shoot a round under par, turning in a second-round score of two-under 70. He leads Bryant Reyes of San Jose State by three strokes. Melling also posted 12 of the team's 30 birdies on the day's rounds. The Broncos lead the 10-team field by seven strokes, ahead of San Jose State. A Stanford JV squad, CS San Marcos and CS Chico round out the top five. Cal Poly is in sixth, one stroke away from the top five, while WCC foes Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary's and Gonzaga are close to each other in the seventh through ninth spots. CS Sacramento is 10th, 35 strokes behind the leaders. The Dusty Destruel Invitational at Silver Creek Country Club concludes with tomorrow's third and final round. Tee times begin at 7 a.m. with Santa Clara's first group at 8:44 a.m.
