PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Tuning up for next week's WCC Championships, the Santa Clara men's golf team finished the first two rounds of today's Saint Mary's/Merrill Lynch Invitational in seventh place. The Broncos currently sit at 609, six strokes behind Fresno State and UC Santa Barbara for a top-five spot heading into tomorrow's final round. The 19-team field will return to Poppy Hills Golf Course tomorrow morning for a shotgun start in the third and final round. Xavier leads the field in the team competition with a team score of 593 followed closely behind by Lamar, one stroke back. Boise State sits third with a score of 601. Eric Lillibridge shot consecutive rounds of 74 Monday to finish the day in a tie for eighth place with a 148. Jong Yoon follows with a 152, Michael Nicoletti fired a two-round total of 154 while John Colyar and Tim Lynch carded a 155 and 163, respectively. Mike Miller, competing as an individual, also carded a 163 in Monday's two rounds of play. The Broncos, though, are the top WCC team in the field so far, having the best Day One finish of the six conference schools in the tournament. Fresno State's Jason Anthony leads the individual pack with a one-under 143, while Weber State's Barry Schenk is two strokes back and five more are tied for third at 147.
