Men's Golf Places 18th at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's golf team placed 18th with a three-round score 919 at the 55th Western Intercollegiate this afternoon. The event took place at the at Pasatiempo Golf Club, a par-70 course totaling 6,445 yards. Oregon won the team competition with a 10-over par 850 and defeated runner-up Washington by 17 strokes. Kansas placed third while Pacific and UC Irvine rounded out the top five. Pepperdine, the only other West Coast Conference squad in the 18-team field, tied for seventh with Stanford at 882. San Diego State's Lars Johansson earned individual medalist honors with a 206. Senior Drew Corwin led Santa Clara with his tie for 50th place at 226. Junior Sandy Horacek finished two strokes behind his teammate at 228 with senior Tony Okano tied for 61st place with a 229. The Broncos return to action next week at the Grand Canyon Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will take place April 9-10 in Goodyear, Ariz.
