Men's Golf Places Fourth at Sacramento State Invitational

RANCHO MURIETA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's golf team opened the spring season with its fourth straight top-five finish, placing fourth this afternoon at the Rancho Murieta Country Club, as part of the Sacramento State Invitational. Senior Drew Corwin held on to second place, recording a 71 today for a 219 total on the par-72, 6, 839-yard course. Senior Tony Okano tied for 13th with an 11-over 227, junior Sandy Horacek tied for 15th senior Paul Nelson tied for 24th, and senior Michael Melling tied for 35th. CS Stanislaus' Mark Lawless won individual medalist honors with a four-under 212. Idaho won the team championship with a 35-over-par 899. Just one stroke back was host Sacramento State and Washington State, as both tied for second with 900 scores. The Broncos finished just nine strokes off the lead at 908, 44 strokes over par. Men's golf will continue spring action at the Western Intercollegiate, hosted by San Jose State University. The tournament will be held April 2-3 in Santa Cruz.
