Fresno, Calif. -Scott Travers followed up his impressive, playoff win last tournament with a fourth place finish at the Fresno State Lexus Classic this week, shooting a six-under over the three round tournament. Santa Clara finished 15th as a team.
Just as his second round, Travers started off the day on a low note, with a bogey on the first hole, but quickly bounced back strong with birdies on two of his next three. Travers kept up his steady play throughout the round, birdying five holes and giving up just two bogeys. His play left him tied for fourth place, three strokes behind the winner.
Jonathan Keane came in next for the Broncos. After finishing his first two rounds at even par, Keane ran into trouble at the start of his third round, going three-over in his first three holes, but played steady golf the rest of the way, finishing up at five-over on the day and for the tournament.
Slow starts seemed to be a common theme for Santa Clara, as Jimmy Cacho bogeyed three of his first four holes, but like the rest of the team, Cacho came back strong, birdying two of his next three. He finished with a two-over 74, six-over for the tournament.
Kellen Moss improved three strokes from his second round on Monday, shooting a final round 77 to score for the team on Tuesday. Blair Myers ended his tournament tied with Moss at +15 for the tournament after his final round of 79.
Santa Clara trailed host Fresno State in 16th late in the tournament, but a strong push at the end brought them back to 15th where they started the day. The Broncos finished the tournament +16 as a team.
Santa Clara will continue their spring season in two weeks at the Western Invitational in Santa Cruz on Monday and Tuesday, March 25-26.
