Men's Golf Ties for 14th at Braveheart Classic

BEAUMONT, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team tied for 14th in its second tournament of the spring season, the Braveheart Classic, hosted by UC Riverside at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.

Santa Clara carded a 302-298-307--907 to tie for 14th with Utah State. Host UC Riverside won the team event, with a 14-under 850, eight strokes ahead of Cal Poly. UC Santa Barbara and Saint Mary's rounded out the top four.

Santa Clara was led by John Colyar, who carded a 222 (74-73-75) over three rounds to tie for 31st. Matt Klenz followed with a 229 (75-78-76) to place 63rd and Eric Lillibridge was two strokes after that, tied at 66th with a 231 (75-76-80). Michael Nicoletti scored a 232 (78-71-83) and Jong Yoon added a 234 (78-80-76).

The Highlanders' Brendan Steele earned individual medalist honors, posted a 13-under 203 for a two-stroke win over Cal Poly's Travis Bertoni. Twelve other golfers posted even-par or better scores.

The Broncos return to action in three weeks, with participation at the annual Western Intercollegiate, hosted by San Jose State at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz. Rounds will be played March 28 and 29.
