Complete Tournament Results

BEAUMONT, Calif. - Santa Clara's men's golf team posted another quality finish, placing third at the Braveheart Classic at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont. Scott Travers rebounded from an opening-round 79 to play the final 36 holes 7-under and finish in a tie for fourth. Cory Mehl was also inside the top 10. Mehl's tournament score of 1-over was good for sixth among 90 players.

"It was a pretty good result all things considered," said Santa Clara head coach Robert Miller. "One of our top guys, Rick Lamb, was out. With him we just may have placed second or had a chance to win it. But it was good to play well heading into our next two events. After that it's the conference championships. We expect Rick to be back by then."

The lineup of Travers, Mehl, Jimmy Cacho (+10), Ronnald Monaco (+10) and Adam Ichikawa (+32) was able to beat out 11 other schools at Oak Valley - including three WCC opponents, LMU, Portland and Gonzaga.

"We would really like to have a tournament where we put it all together, in all three rounds," said Miller. "We have played a bad round in a number of events and that lack of consistency has hurt us."

Santa Clara is still among the best teams in the West Coast Conference, trailing No. 30 San Diego and No. 43 Pepperdine in the latest rankings by GolfWeek.com. The Broncos, ranked No. 88, take two weeks off before playing at the Oregon Duck Invitational March 22-23.
