John Kennaday is entering his sixth season as head coach of the Bronco program. During his time on the Mission Campus Kennaday has guided the Broncos to tournament wins at the Sacramento State Invitational in 1999 and the Grand Canyon/Thunderbird Invitational in 2000. He was named the 2001 West Coast Conference Coach of the Year and has had three All-WCC selections in Drew Corwin, Adam Harrington, Sandy Horacek and Matt Klenz. Kennaday also coached three Academic All-Americans in the last four years as Tony Okano received the honor in both 2000 and 2001 while Justin Ahasic garnered the accolade in 2003. In addition to his coaching prowess Kennaday has successfully started and maintained the Bronco Cup Scramble, which is a major part of the fundraising effort for the Bronco golf program. Before arriving at Santa Clara, Kennaday was a touring professional for seven and a half years, holding membership cards on the Canadian PGA Tour, the Nike Tour and the Golden State Tour during that time span. He also spent three years as a teaching professional at Mark Dorcak's Complete Golf School in Milpitas, Calif. Among his duties were providing instruction to players of all levels, using video-motion analysis during lessons, producing corporate clinics and working with local charity fundraising events. Kennaday was as an assistant professional at Spring Valley Golf Course in Milpitas. Kennaday earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and finance from San Jose State University. While a Spartan, he earned first team All-PCAA honors in 1986 and '87 and was named an All-American in 1987. Prior to San Jose State, Kennaday spent two years at Monterey Peninsula College, where he was a conference golf MVP in 1984 and `85. He and his wife Christina have a 2-year old boy named Jack and reside in San Jose. |
