April 9, 2005

HUMBOLDT, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's crew had a solid performance at the 22nd Annual Blue Herron Redwood Sprints Regatta in Humboldt, Calif. on Saturday, posting wins in both the varsity eight and novie four races.

Windy conditions shortened and lengthed races through out the day on Humboldt Bay. However, Santa Clara was able to hold on to place third overall in the team standings.

"We did really wel today," said head coach Stephanie Shepherd. "The team really came together as a group this week. I am very pleased with the performance."

The first Bronco win of the day came in the fifth of seven races SCU competed in. The Broncos pulled a time of 6:00.49 in the novice four to post a win over four other boats.

Santa Clara also closed out the meet after a hectic day of racing with a victory in the varsity eight. The Broncos crossed the line in a time of 4:33.43 to best second-place Humboldt State by more than five seconds.

The Bronco women will take a 20-day break from competition to prepare for the WIRA Championships, which begin on April 29 on Lake Natoma.
