Crews Complete WIRA Championships

LAKE NATOMA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men and women's crews completed their participation in the WIRA Championships on Sunday at Lake Natoma near Sacramento, Calif. The Bronco men had three boats in action on the final day while the women had two racing on Sunday.
The men's novice four was the first Santa Clara boat to race on Sunday, competing in the Grand Final of their category. The Broncos finished the raced in a time of 7:11.1 which placed them fifth out of six teams. San Diego State won the race in a time of 6:55.9, followed by UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara who were 11 and 12 seconds behind the Aztecs, respectively.
Santa Clara's women's second varsity eight rowed in the Petite Final and finished second in a time of 7:23.0, 6.6 seconds behind Willamette and 0.3 seconds ahead of Puget Sound.
The men's second varsity eight rowed in the Grand Final of their division and finished fourth in a time of 6:29.9. UC Davis won the race in a time of 6:17.9, followed by UC Irvine and Orange Coast College.
The women's varsity eight raced in the Petite Final at Lake Natoma and crossed the finish line in a time of 7:16.6, placing them sixth in their race. Western Washington won the race in a time of 6:58.3 whereas UC Davis was the fifth place boat in a time of 7:07.0.
Santa Clara's final boat to race on Sunday was the men's varsity eight who competed in the Grand Final of the WIRA Championships. The Broncos crossed the finish line in a time of 6:11.8, giving them fifth place, just three seconds behind national powerhouse Washington. UC Davis won the race in a time of 6:00.8 followed by Gonzaga and Orange Coast College.
Both the men and the women return to the water next weekend at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta held in Philadelphia, Pa. Following that the Broncos will return to Lake Natoma for the PCRC Championships the following weekend.
