Holbrook Named to WCC All-Academic Team
Feb. 20, 2002 SAN BRUNO, Calif. - For the second-straight year, Santa Clara University senior forward Justin Holbrook was named to the West Coast Conference Men's Basketball All-Academic Team for his achievements on and off the court, league officials announced today. Holbrook, a native of Cottage Grove, Ore., possesses a 3.36 grade point average in his communications major. He is the team's third-leading scorer with an average of 8.6 points per game, including a 10.3 average in conference contests. A member of the Student Athlete Leadership Committee, Holbrook has played in 23 games this season and started 10. He is seventh on the school's career list for three-point field goals made (95) and attempted (254). "Justin is a prime example of a successful 'student-athlete'," said SCU Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick. "He is a good student who works hard in the classroom and he is a very integral part of our men's basketball team. We are certainly proud of the fact that athletics is a vital component of the university's mission to develop the whole person." To be considered for the award, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to his team. This past summer in the lastest NCAA Graduation Rate Report of student-athletes, the WCC ranked fifth in overall student-athlete graduation rate. The league boasts a 69.5 percent student-athlete graduation rate, which is the highest of any Division I conference west of the Mississippi.
