PROVO, Utah (AP) - Mike Rose tied his career-high with 26 points and Brigham Young set a school free-throw record as the Cougars beat Santa Clara 87-74 on Friday.

Jared Jensen added his own career-best 23 points for the Cougars (5-8) and BYU took advantage of a tired Santa Clara squad that was playing its third game in five days.

Doron Perkins scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Broncos (7-8), who have lost four straight and six of their last seven.

Rose's total included four 3-pointers and 8-of-8 shooting from the free-throw line.

Santa Clara's early foul trouble in the second half - BYU was shooting one-and-ones with just under 15 minutes remaining - led to a record-setting performance by BYU from the foul line.

The Cougars went to the line 23 times in the second half, making them all to set a school-record of 24 consecutive free throws, breaking by two the old mark set in 1996.

Neither team had a lead larger than seven points until the last five minutes of the game.
